Godzilla: Timelines of Destruction

Japanese film studio Toho kicked off a series of "kaiju" (giant monster) films in 1954 with the release of Godzilla (Gojira, ゴジラ). Since then, the studio has produced more than 50 films in the kaiju genre, with Godzilla being the featured player in most of the films. Amazingly, many of the Toho films are connected in a "kaiju universe", especially those appearing in the first 30 years of the studio's efforts. Afterwards, various "offshoot timelines" from the original 1954 sequence have arisen to one degree or another.

This section of the site presents three possible outlines tying together the various story lines in Toho's kaiju universe based on the films' release eras. They are divided into three separate sections linked below:

The Showa Era (1954-77)

The Heisei Era (1984-98)

The Modern Era (1999-2018)
