Space Battleship Yamato 2202

Below is a brief episode guide to the anime series Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love (宇宙戦艦ヤマト2202 愛の戦士たち), released in theaters, TV and home video from 2017 to 2019. This series is a follow up to the 2012-2013 series Space Battleship Yamato 2199 which was itself a reboot of the TV series Space Battleship Yamato (1974-75). The events of 2202 are in many ways a modern take on the events portrayed in the film Farewell Space Battleship Yamato (1978).

  1. A.D 2202 - Revive, Space Battleship Yamato: The Gatlantean warlord Zordar vows to bring "love" to the universe through a campaign of death. His troops attack the planet Telezart and kill its ministers. Near a Gamilas base, Earth and Gamilas forces work together to oust a fleet of Gatlantis warships from a Gamilas territory. When a Gatlantis heavy destroyer appears, the coalition fleet appears to be overpowered. However, the UNCF (United Nations Cosmo Force) battleship Andromeda attacks with its powerful Wave Motion Gun, destroying the bulk of the Gatlantis forces. However, a Gatlantis heavy destroyer manages to warp its way to Earth, heading on a collision course with UNCF HQ. The Yamato, undergoing modifications, is quickly called into service, and destroys the Gatlantis capital ship with its main shock cannons. Meanwhile, Kodai receives a strange message from the ghost of Captain Okita, urging him to return to the Yamato.
  2. Tension - Reach the Embassy on the Moon: A fleet of advanced Andromeda-class warships are launched in a grand ceremony. The crew of the Yamato meet at Okita’s grave to honor his memory. Sanada, Kodai and Shima examine the Yamato’s auto-recording log, which reveals a call for help from a mysterious woman. A Gamilas spy named Keyman tells Kodai to seek answers on the moon, where the Gamilas Embassy is located. With an assist from Yamamoto, Kodai breaches the lunar defense grid incognito. Meanwhile, Zordar begins creating a planetary blockade around Telezart and then seta Gatlantis on a course for Earth, the target of Teresa’s transmission.
  3. Shock - Legacy of the Cosmo Reverse: On the moon, a Gamilas ambassador informs Kodai about Gatlantis and its desire to take power from Teresa, the goddess of Telezart. Soon back on Earth, Keyman shows Kodai the Cosmo Reverse Time Fault, a secret cave in which 10 days pass for each outside day. This Iscandarian technology has given Earth time to build a fleet of ships like the Andromeda in a very short time. When Kodai asks the UNCF to approve a rescue mission to Telezart, they turn him down and try to reassign the Yamato crew members. Kodai gathers the crew and urges them to leave with him on the Yamato anyways. On the 11th planet of the Solar System, a Gamilas outpost is attacked by advance Gatlantis forces.
  4. Departure to the Unknown!: Earth HQ attempts to dissuade the Yamato from taking off, but Kodai and the crew are undeterred from their decision answer Teresa's call for help. The Yamato fights its way out of its underwater dock and takes to the sky. In the Earth's atmosphere, a defense satellite is armed. The Yamato destroys it and heads out into deep space.
  5. Clash! Yamato vs. Andromeda: The Cosmo Tigers, led by Yamamoto, join the Yamato near the moon. The Gamilas Keyman also arrives, insisting on being an advisor to the Yamato's crew. Soon, the Andromeda, led by Captain Yamanami, moves to intercept the Yamato near Jupiter. The Yamato uses the asteroid belt to form a ring defense, and eventually manages to push past the Andromeda. Moments later, their mission is approved by the UNCF due to political pressure from the Gamilas. Kato and the remaining fighter pilots also soon arrive at the ship.
  6. Battle to the Death - The 11th Planet Rescue Operation: Comet Empire forces under General Nazca continue to attack the Gamilas colony on the 11th planet, which is defended by a small force of Cosmo Cavalry stationed there. When the Yamato learns of this attack from a survivor, they decide to warp in close to the surface, although this will temporarily take the Wave Motion Engine offline. This done, the survivors board the Yamato, but the vulnerable Yamato is pinned down by Nazca’s heavy destroyers. Soon more Gatlantis battleships arrive and a massive energy beam is fired at the planet, apparently destroying the Yamato.
  7. The Beam of Light Flashes! The Radiance of the Wave Motion Gun: The Yamato uses its Wave Motion shields to hold a mountain of rocks at bay. It later uses the ring defense mechanism to further control the rocks while repairs are underway on the ship. A massive Gatlantis fleet under General Mazer amasses near the artificial sun orbiting the 11th planet, intending to draw on the sun’s power to fire a devastating beam at Earth (the Legionnaire Cannon). Although uncomfortable with breaking Okita’s promise to Starsha, Kodai allows the Wave Motion Gun to be fired. He allows this because the blast does not cause any enemy casualties - it only hits the sun, causing a resonance wave which disables Mazer’s Gatlantis fleet without destroying them. Mazer is confused and furious by Kodai’s act of mercy.
  8. Trap at Planet Stravaze!: The Yamato arrives at Stravaze, a planet where they plan to drop off the 11th planet refugees with a Gamilas force on its way to Earth. However, while on the surface, a suspicious-looking woman named Katsuragi leads Kodai to a cave of crystalline obelisks, where he is confronted by a "zombie" possessed by the consciousness of Zordar. At the same time, a rebel Gamilas force (the Destructive Liberation Army) attacks Stravaze, lured there by Keyman allies. Keyman uses this distraction to take the opportunity to implant a secret element in the Wave Motion Engine.
  9. Zordar, The Devil's Alternative: With Kodai on the planet’s surface, Admiral Hijikata takes command of the Yamato and draws the enemy DLA fleet away from the Gamilas refugee ships. In the Aquarius cave, Zordar tells Kodai that Gatlanteans are manufactured warriors, and that he wants to destroy all lifeforms who possess emotion (due to their unstable, self-destructive nature). He also informs Kodai that he has placed one of his zombies on each of the three Gamilas refugee ships. Kodai must choose one of the ships to be spared or Zordar will order all three puppets to self-destruct. More importantly, with Yuki serving as an escort aboard one of the three ships, Zordar tries to force Kodai to choose Yuki’s ship to be saved over the lives of the other two. When Yuki learns of this terrible dilemma that Kodai faces, she jumps overboard in order to spare Kodai from having to make such an unwinnable choice. Kodai takes a desperate plunge in his shuttle in an attempt to catch Yuki in mid-air. Angry that his plot to torture Kodai has failed, Zordar orders his zombies to self-destruct and the three damaged refugee ships also begin falling towards Stravaze's surface. In a wild move, Hijikata has the Yamato destroy the gravitational core of Stravaze with the Wave Motion Gun, leaving Kodai, Yuki and the refugee ships all drifting weightlessly in space.
  10. Spellbound: The Space Fireflies Beckon a Crisis: The Yamato encounters “space fireflies” (starflies) which mesmerize the crew (and heighten emotions to the extent of nearly causing a fight between Kodai and Saito). Even worse, they cause deterioration to the ship itself. Keyman helps Sanada deactivate the mesmerizing effect of the starflies with a frequency burst, while Dr. Sado uses a chemical spray to kill off the starflies themselves. The crew then receive a vision from Teresa, further encouraging them on their journey to Telezart. On Gatlantis, Zordar gifts Desslar with a Gatlantean fleet to command.
  11. Desslar's Challenge!: Desslar uses his newly-improved Desslar Cannon to destroy the remnants of General Mazer’s “contaminated fleet”, as per Zordar’s orders. He then tracks down the Yamato with the help of his Gatlantean aide Miru (who psychically receives Yamato's coordinates from Katsuragi). Using warp torpedoes, Desslar lures the Yamato into a high energy zone where they cannot use the Wave Motion Engine without causing an explosion. The Yamato soon encounter an Aquarian tube-shaped relic, which they enter and investigate. Desslar’s forces arrive in the high energy area and the Desslar Cannon is fired at the Aquarian tunnel relic. The shockwave propels the Yamato with enough force to allow it to go into warp and escape. Desslar then reunites with a fleet of Gamilas loyalists, who suddenly warp in, surprising Miru. On the Yamato, Keyman recognizes the Desslar Cannon’s energy signature.
  12. The Shocking White Comet Empire: The Yamato Rams Through!: Katsuragi is exposed as a Gatlantis spy and goes into hiding on the Yamato. The White Comet suddenly appears in front of the Yamato. In Gatlantis, Sabera uses her organ-playing power to use gravitational waves on the Yamato, drawing it towards the core of the White Comet. Being identical manifestations of the same being in the same time-space, Sabera and Katsuragi begin to “resonate” with each other. An angered Zordar kills the out-of-control Sabera, who begins to experience “forbidden emotions”. This allows the Yamato to warp out of danger and continue towards Telezart.
  13. The Telezart Landing Operation: Strike the Enemy Missile Fleet!: Gatlantis General Gorland and his clone heir guard the approach to Telezart. The Yamato and an armored mobile suit brigade warp in behind Gorland’s forces and attack from the Telezart side. Gorland fires an anti-matter missile at a rock formation situated in between the opposing forces, causing massive turbulence and throwing the Yamato’s original plan awry. Despite Okita’s promise to Starsha, Kodai is forced to use the Wave Motion Gun to obliterate Gorland’s forces.
  14. The Zavaival Onslaught: Finding Teresa: While Sanada and Kodai prepare Wave Motion Excavation Warheads to remove the planetary shell placed around Telezart by Zordar, Saito and Yamamoto lead their armored mobile suit brigade onto the surface in order to deal with Gatlantis General Zavaival’s robot tank corp. Zavaival employs a Gamilas Reflex Gun against Kodai and Sanada but Keyman's knowledge of Gamilas tech allows him to sabotage it. After Zavaival and his forces are destroyed, Kodai, Sanada and Saito visit a cavernous sanctuary on Telezart where they finally meet Teresa. Teresa tells them that Zordar is using an Aquarian failsafe weapon with the intention of destroying all life in the universe. Suddenly, Desslar appears behind the Yamato crew members.
  15. Teresa, Cry for Desslar!: Teresa reveals that Desslar’s despotic actions in the past had only been for the benefit of his home planet. The people of Gamilas need a new planet to migrate to, since Gamilas will soon become uninhabitable. Keyman arrives and reveals himself to be Desslar’s nephew, whose mother Desslar had exiled many years ago from the royalty. Above the planet, Desslar’s fleet begins attacking the Yamato, driving the ship down to the surface of Telezart.
  16. So Long, Teresa! The Bouquet of Two Desslars: With the help of Keyman’s earlier sabotage of the Wave Motion Engine, Desslar and his forces capture Kodai and the Yamato. Desslar intends to use Teresa as a bargaining chip with Zordar, hoping that Gatlantis will help him find a new planet to replace Gamilas. After Keyman learns the identity of the mastermind behind the Desslar loyalists on Gamilas (his true mission objective all along), he turns on Desslar and frees the Yamato. Teresa and Telezart both soon vanish from the universe.
  17. Saturn's Offshore Battle: Gather the Wave Motion Fleet!: Sanada suggests using Keyman’s Wave Motion Engine alteration to increase the power of Yamato’s Wave Motion Gun for a one-time super-shot (as a “Transit Wave Motion Gun”). UNCF forces engage Gatlantis General Balsey’s fleet at Saturn. Balsey attacks the forward fleet with giant ramming missiles (sword-shaped “Eaters”), but Admiral Yamanami’s fleet of Andromeda class warships warp in and the tide turns. Zordar clones a new Sabera, this one without emotions. Through Miru, he tells Desslar that Gatlantis will help him take back Gamilas if Desslar destroys the Yamato. He also mentally gives Katsuragi new instructions to turn Kato against the Yamato.
  18. Yamato's Despair: Once More, the Devil's Alternative: Yamanami’s fleet gains the upper hand when additional UNCF ships ambush Balsey’s forces from a hiding place beneath Saturn’s rings. This prompts Zordar to warp in to the Saturn battlezone. When the UNCF's Wave Motion Guns fire on the White Comet, the true nature of Gatlantis is revealed as a massive planet-sized structure enclosing several planets. Zordar initiates a gravity whirlpool which begins sucking in the UNCF fleet, destroying most of the ships (although Yamanami manages to escape). The Yamato arrives and attempts to use its enhanced Transit Wave Motion Gun, but Kato (the life of his son held ransom by Katsuragi) reactivates Keyman’s sabotage element, rendering the Wave Motion Engine (and Gun) powerless.
  19. Yamato's Successor, Its Name is Ginga: Most of the crew of the Yamato are evacuated to the Ginga, a new “Yamato-class” battleship which is powered by the Cosmo-Reverse System. Although without offensive armaments, the Ginga can deploy a Wave Motion Shield around an entire fleet, protecting it from Gatlantis fire. The Ginga is also enhanced with an AI system, and its captain (Saki Todo) explains that they need to hold Gatlantis back for 100 days during which time Earth can manufacture more ships in the Time Fault. Kato leads a dangerous mission to deploy Wave Motion bomb-drones amidst he Gatlantis fleet, which are soon detonated by a resonance frequency from the Ginga. The Yamato crash lands on one of the planets within the Gatlantis structure. Yuki loses her memory from the last 4 years.
  20. Gatlantis, the Cursed Child: The crew of the Yamato discover that they have landed on Zemulia, the original planet whose inhabitants had created the synthezoid slave Gatlanteans. A recorded AI explains that an advanced model of Gatlantean named Zordar had fallen in love with a Zemulian woman (Sabera), and for this crime the Zemulians had ended up executing Sabera (and Zordar’s child-clone). Seeking vengeance, Zordar had activated the Ark of Destruction (the Aquarian doomsday failsafe) and destroyed the Zemulians. Katsuragi is a clone of Sabera, the last Zemulian. In the meantime, the White Comet warps to Mars.
  21. Escape the Nightmare!!: Keyman learns that the Zemulians have created a failsafe device in case the Gatlanteans became dangerous - a device called a Golem. Unfortunately, Zordar is in possession of it. The Ginga is ordered to retreat from the battlefield so that it can function as a space ark for the remnants of humanity (the G-Plan). Yamanami leads an unmanned fleet of Andromeda-class ships in a last-ditch attempt to stop Gatlantis at Mars. At the same time, the Yamato moves to escape from Zemulia just as Zordar has the planet destroyed. Seeing the Yamato in trouble, Yamanami dashes forward in the Andromeda in a veritable suicide attack. Saki abandons the G-Plan and goes after Yamanami’s Andromeda, and then uses the Ginga’s Cosmo Reverse Wave Motion Lens to magnify the Andromeda’s Wave Motion Gun, giving it the firepower to destroy the Gatlantis gravity core powering Zordar’s Ark of Destruction. This saves the Yamato and temporarily disables Gatlantis' warp capability.
  22. The Destined Confrontation!: With Gatlantis momentarily halted at Mars, the Yamato is repaired at drydock. It soon heads back out but is intercepted by Desslar’s ship, the Neu Deusuler. Warned by Keyman, the Yamato does a short warp to avoid the Desslar Cannon, and rams the Neu Deusuler. Desslar uses androids to raid the Yamato but Keyman deactivates them with his knowledge of Gamilas technology. During the battle, Saito learns that he is a puppet of Zordar. When Keyman confronts Desslar on the Neu Deusuler’s bridge, Miru appears and tells Keyman that if he kills his uncle then Zordar will agree to spare Earth and Gamilas for 10,000 years.
  23. Warriors of Love: Just before Keyman shoots Desslar, Kodai appears and stops him. Miru (Zordar’s young clone) fires at Kodai but Yuki uses her body to take the bullet. Miru is impressed by this act of selfless love (even without her recent memory) and decides to make peace. Unfortunately, he is then killed by Desslar’s arriving guards. Saito undergoes radiation treatment in order to cut his ties with Zordar, although it shortens his lifespan. The White Comet arrives at Earth and tells humanity that it will spare Earth if they will become subjects of Gatlantis.
  24. Yamato, Attack the Comet Empire!: With protective assistance from Desslar’s capitol ship, the Yamato fires the Transit Wave Motion Gun at Gatlantis, breaching its main fleet, the first line of defense. Additional Gamilas ships (including Frakken’s subspace fleet) arrive and escort the Yamato into the heart of Gatlantis. Within the Ark of Destruction (Gatlantis’ main structure), Gatlantis cruisers are deployed against the Yamato. However, Katsuragi (now in opposition to Zordar’s ambitions) uses the Yamato’s remote cosmo-navigation system to take over control of Gatlantis’ unmanned defenses. When Zordar tries to take back control of his ships, Kodai uses the remaining Gatlantean forces still slaved to Katsuragi to mount a ring defense (a tactic used previously with asteroids). When Zordar telepathically discovers Katsuragi’s ship location he has her killed with a precise tactical strike. Tokugawa, Kato, Hijikata and Analyzer are also casualties in the general carnage. Finally, Kodai leads an away team to penetrate Zordar’s very throne room. When Zordar's father Gairen sacrifices his life to save his son, Zordar strikes his sword against his throne, which also happens to be the Golem failsafe device.
  25. Farewell, Space Battleship Yamato: The shattered Golem instantly kills all Gatlanteans everywhere in the universe except for Zordar (who is essentially an advanced form of Gatlantean, or “human”) and Sabera. Zordar then absorbs the Golem’s released energy to further evolve the Ark of Destruction into an even larger, bird-shaped form. Keyman and Saito sacrifice their lives when they detonate a Wave Motion Excavation bomb at the heart of the Ark, hoping to destroy the Ark's reaction chamber. Unfortunately, this is mostly in vain and Zordar uses the increased power of the Ark to destroy part of Earth’s moon. Kodai has everyone evacuate the Yamato and sets the Yamato on a collision course for Zordar’s Ark, hoping that his last act will buy Earth enough time to relaunch the Ginga and find a new planet for the remnants of mankind to live on. Yuki appears on the bridge and joins him in an embrace on the bridge. The Wave Motion Engine goes critical, causing a breach in space-time and allowing Teresa to manifest. Impressed by the will of humanity, Teresa accompanies the Yamato on their final journey, which climaxes in a flash of light (an explosion which destroys Zordar and his Ark of Destruction).
  26. Earth, Yamato Is ...: Six months after the end of the war with Gatlantis, the Yamato suddenly resurfaces in the Time Vault, carrying only one occupant, Yamamoto. Yamamoto explains that Kodai and Yuki are still living in Teresa’s higher dimension, thrust there during the destruction of Zordar's Ark. Sanada reasons that a rescue mission can be mounted to this higher dimension, but such a journey will completely deplete the Time Vault. A vote is put to the people of Earth, with Sanada arguing that the current path of infinite armament (through the power of the Time Vault) is not humanity’s true nature. Meanwhile in Teresa’s dimension, Kodai has reservations of returning to Earth, as he feels guilt for “pulling the trigger” on Gatlantis. He changes his mind when he learns that a baby will soon be in his and Yuki’s future. The Yamato soon arrives and everyone returns to Earth (and the Time Vault is destroyed).

Toho's Godzilla Universe - Modern Era

Godzilla 2000 Millennium (1999)
Like the entries on the Showa Era films and the Heisei Era films, this page presents fictional-histories assembled from Toho's giant monster films, this time from the "modern era" (1999-2018). In contrast to the Showa and Heisei Era series, the modern (or "Millennium") films mostly have their own internal mythologies, although some of them include the 1954 Godzilla as their starting point. Having said that, 2002's Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and 2003's Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. are directly connected, and the 2017-2018 AniGoji Trilogy (GODZILLA: Planet of Monsters, GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle, GODZILLA: The Planet Eater) makes up one complete narrative. Thus, there are 7 different timelines described here:

  1. Millennium Continuum
  2. Megaguiras Continuum
  3. GMK Continuum
  4. Kiryu Continuum
  5. Final Wars Continuum
  6. Shin Godzilla Continuum
  7. AniGoji Continuum

Millennium Continuum

This timeline only includes events detailed in Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999)/ゴジラ2000 ミレニアム.

60 Million BC: An alien craft lands in the sea off the coast of Japan. Deprived of sunlight, the craft and its occupants fall into a state of hibernation.

1954: A gigantic creature dubbed Godzilla begins periodically attacking Japan’s power centers. In the ensuing decades, the Crisis Control Intelligence (CCI) is formed to develop new weapons (such as “full metal missiles”) in the hopes that they will stop Godzilla.

1999: A 60-million-year-old deep sea rock formation is “awakened” by exploratory submarine searchlights (having crashed to Earth in the ancient past, it had been inactive until now due to lack of sunlight). The rock-encrusted saucer flies to the surface where it is soon confronted by Godzilla. After analyzing and then driving Godzilla back into the sea, it stations itself atop a building in Shinjuku and begins scanning Japan’s computer databases. Although the CCI’s attacks on the regenerated saucer fail, a scientist named Shinoda is able to discover that the aliens intend to terraform the Earth and to use Godzilla’s regenerative cells (Regenerator G-1) to manifest physical bodies and then take over the planet. When Godzilla returns for another battle, the saucer manages to extract some of his DNA, and soon gives birth to a colossal mutated form (dubbed Orga), which soon display some of Godzilla’s characteristics. In the end, when Orga tries to swallow Godzilla by wrapping its maw around his head, he destroys it with an atomic blast before Orga can complete the cellular absorption of its intended victim. Godzilla then proceeds to lay waste to Tokyo.

Megaguiras Continuum

This timeline only includes events detailed in Godzilla vs. Megaguiras (2000)/ゴジラ × メガギラス G消滅作戦/Godzilla × Megaguirus: The G Extermination Strategy.

1954: A gigantic creature (dubbed Godzilla) appears in the Pacific, probably created from repeated nuclear testing in the region. It attacks Tokyo and then disappears. The capitol of Japan is then reestablished in Osaka.

1966: Godzilla reappears and attacks the Tokai Nuclear Power Plant (north of Tokyo). Scientists reason that Godzilla is attracted to nuclear energy sources and recommends banning nuclear energy. The development of a replacement, “plasma energy”, begins.

1996: Godzilla appears a third time and attacks a plasma reactor in Osaka. Plasma energy is in turn banned to prevent another visit. However, the formation of a new anti-Godzilla project named G-Graspers is begun.

2001: The G-Grasper project develops a new weapon called the Dimension Tide, which can manifest miniature black holes. During a ground test, a wormhole is opened, admitting a prehistoric dragonfly called Meganuron. The Meganuron deposits an egg before returning to the wormhole. The egg eventually ends up in Tokyo’s sewer, and after it hatches a queen Meganuron (Megaguiras) the waterways below Shibuya become backed up, causing massive flooding and necessary evacuation. Out at sea, Godzilla encounters one of the hatched Meganuron dragonflies and destroys it. Detecting this episode, the G-Graspers take this opportunity to lure Godzilla to the island of Kiganjima in order to test out the new satellite-based version of the Dimension Tide weapon. Just before the satellite fires, Godzilla is swarmed by Meganuron dragonflies, which begin siphoning off his energy. Perhaps due to Meganuron interference, the Dimension Tide fails to destroy Godzilla. The surviving Meganurons return to their queen under Shibuya and bequeath her with the cellular energy obtained from Godzilla on Kiganjima, mutating her into the colossal monster Megaguiras. Godzilla eventually arrives in Tokyo as well (drawn to the area by a secret plasma energy facility) and after a fierce battle destroys Megaguiras. The G-Grasper team then fire the Dimension Tide weapon and, despite his interception of the beam with his atomic breath, Godzilla disappears from sight after a massive explosion. However, a few weeks later signs of Godzilla are detected underground.

GMK Continuum

This timeline only includes events detailed in Godzilla (1954) and Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)/ゴジラ・モスラ・キングギドラ 大怪獣総攻撃/GMK.

1954.03.01: Atom bombs are detonated at the Bikini Atolls. Radiation fallout causes death and disease to abound in the waters around Japan.

1954.11: Several ships off the coast of Japan are destroyed. A giant creature is reported rampaging through Odo Island. A scientific expedition led by Dr. Yamane sights the creature and determines that it is a remnant from a prehistoric age reawakened by the atomic bomb testing in the Pacific, and dubs it Godzilla (after a legendary sea divinity worshipped by the island natives). Depth charges are dropped in Godzilla’s suspected domain. This results in Godzilla coming ashore the Japanese archipelago through Tokyo Bay and briefly attacking Shinagawa. The army prepares for another attack by constructing towers bearing up an electric fence (charged with 200,000 volts) around the coastline. When Godzilla soon returns once more, the electric fence is unable to hurt Godzilla in any way. The creature then employs “atomic breath” to destroy the electric towers (as well as the army artillery soon called into the battle). In the end, a large section of Tokyo is destroyed, incurring many casualties. Despite his fears for its misuse, a biochemist named Serizawa agrees to allow his secret super-weapon, the “Oxygen Destroyer”, to be deployed against Godzilla. Locating Godzilla’s precise undersea location through radiation detection, the Oxygen Destroyer is employed to destroy Godzilla (as well as instantly killing all life in the device’s effective range). In the process, Serizawa also gives up his life in order to ensure the Oxygen Destroyer’s successful operation and to bury the secret of his weapon’s destructive power forever. (Godzilla)

1998: Giant monsters begin appearing around the globe, causing havoc and destruction. (GMK Giant Monsters All-Out Attack)

2004: Godzilla destroys an American submarine off the coast of Japan. At Mt. Myoko, ancient “guardian creature” later dubbed Baragon awakens from underneath the mountain. At the same time in Lake Ikeda, an insectoid monster later dubbed Mothra appears from the sea. Godzilla attacks the Bonin Islands and then disappears. The guardian creature Ghidorah awakens in a cavern below Aokigahara forest near Mount Fuji. Godzilla appears from Yaizu harbor and attacks Baragon, eventually destroying the guardian monster. Later, Mothra and Ghidorah confront Godzilla at Yokohama. After Mothra is disintegrated, her energy revives Ghidorah into King Ghidorah (the "Thousand-Year-Old Dragon"). King Ghidorah’s lightning attacks are somehow absorbed and redirected back at the Guardian monster, disintegrating it. The energy of the Guardians then forces Godzilla back into the sea. The JSDF uses a submersible to pursue the creature. After it is swallowed, it fires a drill missile through Godzilla’s hide from within. When Godzilla attempts to use its atomic breath attack, it explodes, leaving behind only a still-beating heart at the bottom of the bay. (GMK Giant Monsters All-Out Attack)

Kiryu Continuum

This timeline mainly includes events detailed in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003), but those two films also reference events taking place in the Showa Era films Godzilla (1954), Mothra (1961), Frankenstein Conquers the World (1965), War of the Gargantuas (1966), and Yog, Monster From Space (1970).

Yamane sights the creature and determines that it is a remnant from a prehistoric age reawakened by the atomic bomb testing in the Pacific, and dubs it Godzilla (after a legendary sea divinity worshiped by the island natives). (Godzilla)

1961.07: The nation of Rolisica conducts atomic bomb tests near Infant Island. Thought to be uninhabited, Infant Island is actually inhabited by primitive villagers, a giant moth-like creature named Mothra, and two tiny women (“Shobijin”, or tiny fairies) who communicate with Mothra telepathically. Fortunately, the island villagers are immune to radioactivity due to their consumption of an indigenous berry juice. When the existence of this juice is reported by shipwreck survivors, an expedition is sent to Infant Island to further investigate. A Rolisican fortune hunter named Clark discovers (and eventually abducts) the Shobijin, and features them in a Tokyo entertainment show. A new Mothra larvae (in caterpillar form) hatches and voyages to Tokyo in pursuit of the Shobijin. There, it wreaks massive damage to the city, despite the efforts of the military. Mothra eventually forms a cocoon near Tokyo Tower in order to transform into its winged (“imago”) form. Clark meanwhile secretly travels back to Rolisica. After emerging from its cocoon, Mothra follows Clark to Rolisica and there wreaks further havoc. Clark is eventually killed by the police. An anthropologist named Chujo carries out a scheme to signal Mothra (using a traditional Infant Island emblem painted onto an airfield) and returns the Shobijin to her (after which Mothra then returns back to Infant Island with her charges). (Mothra)

1965.08: The Frankenstein monster (whose mutated heart had been transported to Hiroshima from Germany at the end of the war) grows into a deformed boy who scavenges food around the area. Three scientists (Dr. James Bowen, and his assistants Sueko Togami and Kenichiro Kawaji) discover the boy and proceed to feed him while keeping him under observation. They are stunned to find out the boy’s origin. They study his unique ability to regrow himself and resist the effects of radiation. Frankenstein eventually grows to colossal size and escapes into the wilderness where it feeds on livestock. In the city a debate rages on whether to kill the monster for public safety or study it. Around the same time a gigantic underground creature (dubbed Baragon) emerges from some mine excavations and causes great destruction, for which Frankenstein is blamed for. When Baragon attacks some humans (including Dr. Sueko), Frankenstein comes to their rescue. However, vibrations from their epic struggle cause a sinkhole to appear, which sucks both creatures into a bottomless chasm. (Frankenstein Conquers the World)

1966: In the ensuing years more giant monsters appear and the AMF (Anti-Megalosaurus Force) is established to fight them. (Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla)

1966.07: Sometime in the past, two scientists in Kyoto (Drs. Paul Stewart and Akemi Togawa) had discovered and raised a strangely-mutated, fur-covered boy, whose biology is apparently the same as the Frankenstein creature discovered by Dr. Bowen in 1965 (Frankenstein Conquers the World). This second Frankenstein eventually disappears near Mount Fuji. However, before his disappearance, some of Frankenstein’s flesh had been torn off while he was in Lake Biwa. This flesh remnant soon regenerates a full body and grows into yet another colossal Frankenstein creature. Unfortunately, in contrast to Stewart’s kindly Frankenstein (dubbed Sanda), this sea-borne Frankenstein (dubbed Gaira) is violent and feeds on humans. When Gaira attacks ships at sea and then comes ashore in Tokyo, the JSDF employ their new Type 66 Maser Cannons against it, which drives it back into the water. However, before it falls, Sanda appears, apparently coming to the other Gargantua’s aid. After taking his brother (clone) to Mount Fuji in order to care for his wounds, Sanda soon sees evidence of Gaira’s violent nature. When Gaira goes on another rampage, Sanda is forced to attack his brother. Their fight eventually takes them out to the open sea where they are bombed by JSDF jets. This causes a sudden volcanic eruption which engulfs the Gargantuas and apparently destroys them both. (War of the Gargantuas)

1970.08: While en route to Jupiter, an unmanned space probe (the Helios 7) encounters an immaterial alien intelligence (later identified as a colony of “Astro-quasars”) which repurposes the probe in order to make its way to Earth. The probe lands off the coast of Sergio Island, a landmass in the South Pacific populated by primitive villagers. The “space amoeba” emerges from the probe capsule and merges with a cuttlefish, enlarging it to colossal proportions. The island natives soon begin to fear the monster cuttlefish (dubbed Gezora) as an angry sea god, especially after it begins to murder curious onlookers. Eventually a resort development corporation sends a scientific team to investigate the reports of this monster. The science team manages to destroy Gezora with fire, but the space amoeba then transfers its consciousness into a land crab (and enlarging it, after which it is dubbed Ganimes) and again attacks the island dwellers. After Ganimes is destroyed with explosives, the space amoeba takes possession of one of the island visitors (an industrial spy named Obata) and informs him that they plan to take control of the Earth. The space amoeba also mutates a turtle (Kamoebas) which it uses to attack the remaining survivors who, by this time, have deduced the nature of the space amoeba and that it and its host creatures are vulnerable to ultrasound waves. The scientists use a swarm of bats to cause Kamoebas and a second Ganimes to attack each other, resulting in their mutual destruction in a volcano eruption. Obata then sacrifices himself when he throws himself into the volcano in order to destroy the threat of the space amoeba once and for all. (Yog, Monster From Space)

1987: Additional Kamoebas creatures are sighted. (Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S.)

1998: The Japanese government recovers the bones of the original Godzilla from 1954 from the bottom of Tokyo Bay. (Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla)

1999: Japanese scientists extract DNA from Godzilla’s remains. (Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S.)

1999: Apparently in response to the theft of Godzilla’s bones/DNA, a new Godzilla attacks Tateyama. Unaffected by maser weapons, it destroys much of Tateyama. Afterwards, the bones of the original Godzilla are used to begin construction of a robot defense against the new Godzilla, whose computer also uses Godzilla’s own DNA. (Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla)

2003: The robot mechanism Kiryu (Mechagodzilla, partially controlled by pilots in Flight Heron aircraft and armed with an Absolute Zero weapon) is completed. Almost immediately, Godzilla approaches Tokyo once again and Kiryu is deployed. However, Godzilla’s roar causes the “soul” of the original Godzilla’s DNA to awaken inside Kiryu, sending it on a brief uncontrolled rampage. Fortunately, in their second encounter, Kiryu is able to force Godzilla to retreat back into the sea, avoiding the necessity to kill him. However, Kiryu itself is greatly damaged. (Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla)

2004: Mothra is sighted over Hawaii, as it flies from Infant Island to Himago Island in order to lay an egg. Later, two female Shobojin fairies appear to the now-elderly Professor Chujo and explain that the original Godzilla’s bones (currently used in Kiryu’s superstructure) must be returned to the sea or Mothra will side with Godzilla against mankind - Mothra promises to defend Japan against Godzilla in Kiryu’s stead. However, the Japanese government does not trust Mothra and refuses to dismantle Kiryu. Soon, the carcass of a dead Kamoebas is found, apparently killed by Godzilla (Godzilla also destroys an American submarine in the area). When Godzilla next attacks the Japanese mainland (drawn by Kiryu’s imminent repair), Chujo’s grandson appeals to Mothra for help, and she quickly arrives to engage Godzilla in battle. Unfortunately, she is defeated and the JSDF sends Kiryu into battle against Mothra’s wishes. On Himago Island, Mothra’s larval twins hatch and soon arrive in Japan, and with the help of Kiryu manage to seriously injure Godzilla. When Kiryu is ordered to destroy Godzilla, the original “soul” of Kiryu’s DNA awakens once more, and instead carries its living incarnation out to sea. Both Godzilla and Kiryu then descend into the depths of the Japan Trench, returning the original Godzilla’s bones to their resting place. However, a laboratory still retains DNA samples of Godzilla and the 1987 Kamoebas. (Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S.)

Note: Promotional materials for Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla also reference several monsters not seen in the films themselves: Rodan, Maguma, Varan, Manda, Dogora, Baragon, Gorosaurus and a Giant Octopus.

Final Wars Continuum

This timeline only includes events detailed in Godzilla Final Wars (2004)/ゴジラ ファイナルウォーズ.

12,000 BC: A cyborg monster dubbed Gigan is created by the extraterrestrial Xiliens and sent to Earth in order to conquer it. Earth’s insectoid protector, the giant monster Mothra, subdues Gigan and forces it into a form of suspended animation. Nonetheless, Xilien genetic material in the form of the M-Base gene is distributed into Earth’s ecosphere, embedding itself in both human and animal DNA.

1954: An atomic bomb test creates the giant monster Godzilla. In the ensuing years, additional radioactive events (and other episodes of careless scientific experimentation) cause additional giant monsters to surface around the world, with many of them carrying the Xilien M-Base gene. In response, the Earth Defense Force (EDF) establishes a team of superhuman mutants (the M-Organization) to fight these monsters (although unbeknownst to them at the time, these super-soldiers also carry the M-Base gene). The M-Organization eventually defeats all of the monsters except for Godzilla, who somehow returns again and again over the following decades.

2004: In the Antarctic, Godzilla is finally defeated when he is trapped and frozen in an ice chasm by the crew of the flying warship Gotengo. An EDF surveillance base is established on the site.

20XX: A mummified Gigan is discovered near Hokkaido by the EDF. This alerts the Xiliens, who head back towards Earth to attempt another invasion of Earth. Around this time, the Shobijin (representatives of Mothra) contact the M-Organization and gift a soldier named Ozaki with a special sword-shaped charm, warning him of important events about to transpire. When the Xiliens arrive on Earth, they use the M-Base genes implanted in dormant giant monsters to awaken these creatures and order them to attack cities around the world. Rodan attacks New York City, Zilla attacks Sydney, Anguiras attacks Shanghai, King Caesar attacks Okinawa, Kamacuras attacks Paris, Kumonga attacks Arizona, and Ebirah attacks the Tokai area of Japan. In short order, the Xiliens subdue their monsters once again, posing as Earth’s saviors and warning the government of the (untrue) approach of a runaway planet named Gorath. When the Xiliens’ true intentions are exposed, their impulsive leader the Controller simply orders the monsters to resume destroying the planet. After the Controller also takes control of M-Organization (through their M-Base genes), the luckily-immune Ozaki and the crew of the Gotengo escape and head to the Antarctic in order to release Godzilla from his ice-prison. When Godzilla is freed, he immediately attacks a resurrected Gigan and defeats the cyborg. This prompts the Controller to send for Monster Zero from deep space. In the meantime, Godzilla eventually destroys all of the remaining monsters under the Xiliens’ control. However, when the Gotengo attacks the Xilien mothership in Tokyo, the crew is captured. Meanwhile, Mothra arrives in Tokyo, as well as Monster Zero and a repaired Gigan. While Godzilla and Mothra face off against Monster Zero and Gigan, on the Xilien mothership Ozaki breaks the Xiliens’ mind control with the sword-charm gifted by the Shobojin, forcing the Controller self-destruct his mothership. Finally, after Mothra defeats Gigan, Monster Zero transforms into an even more powerful form, the three-headed Kaiser Ghidorah. After a fierce battle, Godzilla eventually defeats Kaiser Ghidorah (with the aid of mutant energy transmitted to him from Ozaki and the Gotengo) and then departs back into the sea.

Shin Godzilla Continuum

This timeline only includes events detailed in Shin Godzilla (2014)/シン・ゴジラ/Shin Gojira.

1954: Nuclear waste containers are dumped into Tokyo Bay. The containers are eventually broken open and fed upon by a prehistoric undersea organism. The organism first becomes immune to radiation, and then is eventually able to feed on and store it.

1999: A scientist named Goro Maki leaves Japan in disgust after his wife dies from radiation poisoning.

2005: While abroad, Maki theorizes the possible existence of “Godzilla”, the creature born from radioactive waste from the 1950s. He believes that Godzilla might be able to evolve in “real time” while converting water and oxygen into nuclear fission materials for its own use.

2016: Maki returns to Japan and then in Tokyo Bay sacrifices his own life to be consumed by Godzilla. His abandoned boat is soon discovered and his Godzilla notes are recovered. Triggered into further evolutionary processes by Maki’s advanced genetic material, Godzilla soon attacks Japan, but after evolving through several additional forms is eventually (temporarily) defeated when its blood is chemically frozen by injecting a coagulant down its throat (just as small humanoid shapes begin to sprout from its tail, yet another evolutionary form).

AniGoji Continuum

This timeline includes events detailed in GODZILLA: Planet of Monsters (2017)/GODZILLA 怪獣惑星/Monster Planet, GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle (2018)/GODZILLA 決戦機動増殖都市 and GODZILLA: The Planet Eater (2018)/GODZILLA 星を喰う者. Most of the history from 1999 to 2048 is taken from the prequel light novels GODZILLA: Monster Apocalypse (2017) and GODZILLA: Project Mechagodzilla (2018).

Tens of thousands of years ago: The planet of the Exifs is destroyed by a giant monster named Ghidorah from another dimension of space. Survivors of this apocalypse develop into a cult which worships Ghidorah, believing that their planet’s fate is an ultimate, inevitable form of universal truth. The Exif cultists go out into deep space and find other advanced planetary civilizations under attack from giant creatures, especially a kind later known by humans as a “Godzilla”. They decide that the destiny of these other races is to be destroyed by Ghidorah, just as their own had been. By convincing the victims of Godzilla that the Exif’s god (Ghidorah) is their only salvation, the Exif cultists are able to make native human sacrifices to Ghidorah, drawing the creature out from its other-dimensional home so that it will consume the planet and its Godzilla protector.

1999: On Earth, giant monsters begin to appear around the world and attack, causing death and destruction. These eventually include Kamacuras, Dogora (from space), Kamoebas, Anguiras, Rodan, Hedorah (a Chinese bioweapon gone awry), Gabara, Megalon, Gezora, Ebirah, Daghara, Griffons, Orga, Manda, Maguma, Ganimes, Varan, Baragon, Megaguiras, Gorosaurus, Kumonga, Meganula and King Caesar.

2030: A giant monster soon dubbed Godzilla appears. Godzilla begins exterminating all of the other monsters (as well as humanity).

2031: Godzilla survives the impact of 150 American nuclear warheads.

2035: The Exif arrive on Earth, claiming to know mankind’s destiny. They ask for refuge and promise to guide mankind through their troubles in some way (although in reality, their main objective is to search for a human leader by which they can gain converts to their worship of Ghidorah, and eventually gain enough volunteered human sacrifices for the monster’s summoning).

2036: A group of scientifically-advanced Bilasalodo refugees arrive on Earth, also offering help against the monsters (although they have a secret plan to develop their “nanometal” technology into such an advanced form that a nanometal city (“Mechagodzilla City”) will eventually consume the entire planet and convert all its inhabitants into a single Bilasalodo machine intelligence).

2037: The Earth protector monster Battra detects a meteorite named Gorath heading towards Earth. It awakens before its appointed time in order to prepare a defense against it. Unfortunately, Battra soon encounters Godzilla and is killed. However, Godzilla itself then disappears for five years.

2039: Humanity joins with the Exif and Bilasalodo to form the United Earth, an organization designed to fight back against giant monsters. The advanced warship Goten is launched and defeats Manda. The Moguera defeats Biollante. The French military destroy Zilla and its spawn.

2041: Predicting that Gorath will destroy the Earth in 2042, United Earth scientists devise a plan to flee the planet.

2042: Godzilla resurfaces and destroys Gorath with its atomic breath (which can reach interplanetary distances). Plans to flee Earth are abandoned and all resources are devoted to construction of a giant Bilasalodo robot dubbed Mechagodzilla (which, unbeknownst to humanity, the Bilasalodo plan to use to take control of Earth after Godzilla has hopefully been destroyed).

2043: The United Earth forces begin Operation Great Wall, a plan in which Godzilla may be trapped in the Himalayas with a Bilasalodo nanometal enclosure.

2044: Operation Long March is initiated to force Godzilla to remain on land so that it can be tracked. At the same time Operation LTF (Let Them Fight) is implemented, a plan in which the Bilasalodo mentally control certain monsters. One monster, Gigan, is eventually enhanced with Bilasalodo cyborg parts.

2045: Although Gigan is finally completely destroyed by Godzilla, Operation Great Wall is a success and Godzilla is trapped in the Himalayas for a time.

2046: Godzilla begins consuming molten magma, and eventually gains the power to break out of his molten prison. He makes his way to Japan where he destroys the Bilasalodo base at Mount Fuji just before Mechagodzilla is ready for launch. Mankind decides that fleeing to another planet is their only option for survival. Construction of space arks is begun.

2048: A coalition of 15,000 humans, Exifs and Bilasalodo take off on two space arks and head into deep space hoping to find habitable planets. Mothra appears and manages to injure Godzilla slightly, but is later killed while protecting her egg (which is safely transported to Japan and guarded by a race called the Houtua).

2070: 22 years after launching from Earth, one of the space arks, the Aratrum (now carrying 4000), arrives at planet Tau-Ceti E. Finding it uninhabitable, the leading council decides to return to Earth in the hopes of defeating Godzilla using some new tactical approaches.

On Earth, the surviving head of Mechagodzilla begins generating nanometal around itself, and eventually forms an entire city around itself forged of the material.

Ca. 21250: Due to relativistic time dilation effects, 19,200 years have passed on Earth by the time the Aratrum returns to the planet. They discover that Earth’s biosphere has become toxic in order to accommodate a still living, much larger Godzilla, as well as its offspring and smaller variant forms. A landing party led by a brash young captain named Haruo manages to kill Godzilla’s offspring (“Godzilla Filius”) with EMP technology, but Godzilla himself (“Godzilla Earth”) soon appears and destroys most of the combat troops. (GODZILLA: Planet of Monsters)

The remnants of the landing party make contact with the Houtua, who protect Mothra’s egg. The Houtua lead the humans, Exifs and Bilasalodo to Mechagodzilla City, the now-dormant city created by Mechagodzilla’s head unit long ago. After reactivating the city, the Bilasalodo present a plan to lure Godzilla into a trap to destroy it using the same tactics that had worked on its smaller progeny Filius, but enhanced with Bilasalodo technology to take into account Godzilla Earth’s larger size. However, it is soon revealed that for the Bilasalodo’s plan to work, the humans must be consumed by nanometal in order to become “one” with the Bilasalodo’s logic system. After Haruo leans from his Exif ally Metphies that the Bilasalodo plan to use the nanometal to eventually assimilate the entire planet, he decides to attack the Bilasalodo base during the operation. The entire plan unravels and the nanometal city is destroyed by Godzilla. (GODZILLA: City On the Edge of Battle)

With all of the Bilasalodo from the landing party dead, the Exif begin to actively promote their worship of Ghidorah amongst the humans, and soon gain desperate new followers. Through their ritual self-sacrifice, Ghidorah eventually arrives above Earth through a singularity and destroys the Aratrum. It then heads to the planet’s surface and attacks Godzilla, who is unable to counter Ghidorah due to its extra-dimensional (“magic”) nature. When Haruo learns that his Exif friend Metphies is functioning as Ghidorah’s “eye” on this plane, he confronts his mentor but becomes mesmerized by Metphies’ power. Fortunately, the Houtua call out to Mothra’s unhatched egg, summoning a Mothra mental spirit which breaks Haruo free of Metphies’ mental control. Haruo then gouges out Metphies’ eyes, rendering Ghidorah vulnerable to Godzilla’s attacks. Godzilla soon drives Ghidorah away and then goes back into a dormant state. With most of their craft and gear destroyed, the human survivors settle down into a pre-technological state of society with the Houtua, believing that as long as they avoid the development of technology, they will be safe from Godzilla’s wrath. Fearing that his hatred of Godzilla will negatively impact the peaceful community established with the Haruo, he takes his own life in a suicide attack against Godzilla. (GODZILLA: The Planet Eater)

Heisei Godzilla Continuum

Prehistory
12000 BC: A technologically-advanced civilization arises on Earth, which worships (and is protected by) Mothra, a giant insectoid creature. When weather-control technology causes great damage to the Earth’s environment, the planet responds by manifesting the bat-like monster Battra (“battle Mothra”), which destroys the technology of this civilization. When Battra then proceeds to attack the populace as well, Mothra fights Battra and eventually seals it in an undersea cavern. For the next 12,000 years, generations of Mothra thrive on Infant Island with two tiny, ageless girls named the Cosmos. (Godzilla vs Mothra)

War Years:
1944.02: Japanese soldiers on Lagos Island are saved from Allied capture when a dinosaur (dubbed Godzillasaurus) repels an invading force of US soldiers. In the ensuing decades, the commanding officer, Shindo, will lead Japan’s post-war economic recovery. (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah)

  • 1992 New Futurian Timeline: After the Japanese depart Lagos Island, Futurian and Japanese time travellers form 2204 (and some from 1992) transport Godzillasaurus to the middle of the Bering Sea in the hopes of preventing its mutation into Godzilla in 1954 (from exposure to atom bomb testing). However, the Futurians also leave behind three small creatures named Dorats, hoping that the bomb tests will instead mutate the Dorats into a monster known as King Ghidorah. (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah)
    Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)
Post-War Years
1954.03.01: Between 1946 and 1958, 67 nuclear bombs are detonated on the Bikini Atolls by the U.S. for testing purposes. In 1954, radiation fallout from one of these detonations causes death and disease to abound in the waters around Japan.
  • Original Timeline: Radiation from atom bomb tests transforms Godzillasaurus into Godzilla. (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah)
  • 1992 New Futurian Timeline: Radiation from atom bomb tests transforms the Futurians’ three Dorats into King Ghidorah. In the Bering Sea, a Russian nuclear submarine is lost. Its radioactive elements eventually mutate the newly-relocated Godzillasaurus into Godzilla. (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah)

(Godzilla 1954)

1984.12: Thirty years after his 1954 attack, Godzilla has somehow regenerated himself (an ability granted by his unique radiation-borne “G-cells”). He surfaces and begins attacking nuclear power plants in Japan in order to feed on their energy. In one instance, he also destroys a Soviet submarine, prompting the Soviets to prepare a satellite-launched nuclear missile to be used on Godzilla if necessary. However, the Japanese government opposes such a drastic weapon to be deployed on the mainland. Meanwhile, a scientist named Hayashida discovers that Godzilla is attracted to the Earth’s magnetic field, and theorizes that it may be possible to develop an electronic transmitter to lure Godzilla away from Japan. While Hayashida works on his device, Godzilla attacks Tokyo. Fortunately, the JSDF’s Super X flying fortress is able to bring down Godzilla with anti-nuclear cadmium shells. However, when a Soviet nuclear missile is accidentally detonated above Tokyo, the electromagnetic fallout revives Godzilla. Eventually Hayashida completes his magnetic transmitter and uses it to lure Godzilla into Mt. Mihara’s volcanic crater where an eruption is triggered with explosive charges, consuming Godzilla. (Godzilla 1984)

Godzilla vs Biollante (1989)
Immediately after this incident, the US-based Bio-Major corporation and the nation of Saradia compete against each other in order to collect samples of Godzilla’s G-cells for study. A genetic botanist named Dr. Shiragami is hired by the Saradian government to study the regenerative properties of the captured G-cells (the Saradians hope to develop a sturdy, desert-surviving form of grain, intended to help them create a farming industry). During a power struggle between Bio-Major agents and a Saradian agent, Shiragami’s daughter Erika is killed. Shiragami somehow preserves Erika’s genes (and partial consciousness) in some roses. (Godzilla vs Biollante)

1989.12: Signs of Godzilla are detected inside Mt. Mihara. The JSDF prepare for his return by developing a new flying tank, the Super X2, which is armed with reflective armor (a “Fire Mirror”) which can absorb and then redirect Godzilla’s atomic breath. At the Okouchi foundation, a young geneticist named Dr. Kirishima studies preserved G-cells in order to develop an Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria (ANEB) which can be used to consume nuclear waste and radiation. At the same time, Shiragami secretly uses G-cells to mutate his Erika-spliced roses, hoping to give the last remnants of his slain daughter some sort of immortality. This eventually results in a giant, mobile plant monster (dubbed Biollante), which takes root in nearby Lake Ashi. After Godzilla emerges from Mt. Mihara, he responds to Biollante’s call and goes to Lake Ashi to confront it. Biollante is then apparently destroyed by Godzilla’s atomic breath, and its remaining spores float into the sky. When Godzilla next heads towards Osaka, a psychic girl named Miki Saegusa attempts to halt his advance mentally - unfortunately, her mind is no match for Godzilla’s will and she faints. In Osaka, the JSDF fires Kirishima’s ANEB-filled missiles at Godzilla, but the creature turns out to be too cold-blooded for the ANEB to be effective. The military then tries to lure Godzilla into a microwave field (originally designed to control weather) in order to heat up his body temperature. During this operation, Biollante floats down from the sky and then reemerges from the ground in a much larger form than before. Although Biollante is again reduces to space-borne particles in the ensuing battle, Godzilla’s body temperature is forced to rise and after a brief moment of weakness (caused by the now-activated ANEB), he heads out to sea, seemingly mortally wounded. (Godzilla vs Biollante)

The spores of Biollante eventually reach deep space where they are sucked into a black hole. They later re-emerge from a white hole, now transformed into a mutated, crystalline version of Godzilla, later dubbed Space Godzilla. Space Godzilla heads towards Earth intent on destruction. (Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla)

1992.07: “Futurians” from the year 2204 arrive in Japan and falsely claim that they intend to help Japan avoid a future in which Godzilla has destroyed Japan. After befriending the psychic Miki Saegusa (as well as a scientist named Mazake and a writer named Terasawa), they depart for Lagos Island in 1944 intending to relocate Godzillasaurus so that he never becomes Godzilla. In reality, the Futurians plan to remove Godzilla as a threat to a monster named King Ghidorah (whose seeds they will plant in 1944). After the Futurian time shuttle returns from 1944, King Ghidorah appears and attacks Japan under the Futurians’ orders. In the Bering Sea, Godzilla (whose 1944 relocation had failed to prevent his eventual exposure to radioactivity) destroys a Japanese nuclear sub, and its released radioactivity causes him to overcome his ANEB vulnerability and grow even larger. Godzilla then confronts King Ghidorah in Hokkaido and sends its ravaged body to the bottom of the sea (after which he also destroys the Futurians’ time travel saucer). With Godzilla himself again a danger to Japan, a surviving Japanese Futurian named Emmy heads back to 2204 in her shuttle in order to bring back a restored King Ghidorah. In a few hours, Emmy returns in Mecha-King Ghidorah, which she controls from a chamber on the cyborg dragon’s chest. After a fierce battle, Mecha-King Ghidorah uses cables to lift and then drop Godzilla into the sea. Emmy then escapes back into her future time of 2204 in her time shuttle. (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah)

At some point in the 20th century, Battra is charged with guarding the Earth from a huge meteor which will strike the Earth sometime in the far future. (Godzilla vs Mothra)

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II (1993)
1992: An organization named the U.N.G.C.C. (United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center) is established to develop means of combatting Godzilla. The military branch, G-Force, first develops the Garuda, a fighter craft which is an upgrade to the Super X2. However, it not deployed. After the acquisition of the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah, the future technology of the salvaged cyborg parts is used to begin the development of a bipedal machine monster named Mechagodzilla, which will eventually be completed in 1994. (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla)
Godzilla Vs Mothra (1992)
1993: When a huge meteor hits the sea near the Ogasawara Islands, Godzilla awakes from his hibernation in a deep-sea trench. Additionally, a Mothra egg is exposed to the air on Infant Island, which is also being developed (strip-mined) by the Marutomo Corporation. Thirdly, the meteor’s impact causes the bat-like monster Battra to emerge (in a larval form) and attack Nagoya. While the Marutomo Corporation transports the Mothra egg to Japan, Godzilla attacks the barge, just as a larval Mothra emerges from the egg. Battra soon arrives on the scene and after a three-way battle Godzilla and Battra fall into an undersea lava flow. Later, the Cosmos (two small girls from Infant Island) are kidnapped by Marutomo agents, prompting the Mothra larva to attack Tokyo in search of them. After the JSDF attacks her, Mothra forms a cocoon around herself at the National Diet Building. While Mothra undergoes her metamorphosis, Godzilla reappears at Mount Fuji (having followed an underground lava flow to that outlet) and soon attacks Tokyo. When Battra (now in its imago form) arrives from the sea and attacks Yokohama, Mothra emerges from her cocoon as well and engages Battra in battle. Battra repels Mothra’s attacks, but is then in turn injured when Godzilla arrives and attacks. Mothra and Battra then decide to join forces and together they carry Godzilla out to sea. However, before Godzilla falls into the depths, he kills Battra with his atomic breath. Finally, Mothra and the rescued Cosmos fly out into outer space, in the hopes of deflecting the meteor (possibly Space Godzilla or Gorath) which Battra had originally been tasked to handle. (Godzilla vs Mothra)

1994: A giant egg and some Pteranodon fossils are discovered on Adonoa Island in the Bering Sea. When a scientific research team investigates, they witness a great battle between a colossal, radiation-mutated Pteranodon-like creature (dubbed Rodan) and Godzilla. Amidst the chaos, the scientists escape with the egg back to Kyoto. After Godzilla defeats Rodan, he heads towards Japan in pursuit. In Kyoto, Miki Saegusa and the scientists at G-Force witness a baby Godzillasaurus emerge from the egg. When Godzilla finally arrives, the G-Force attacks him with Mechagodzilla, but Godzilla overloads the mechanical behemoth’s circuits and renders it useless. After he fails to locate “Baby”, Godzilla eventually returns to the ocean. Back on Adonoa Island, Rodan metamorphosizes into “Fire Rodan”, a more powerful incarnation of itself. Meanwhile, the G-Force devise a plan to use Baby as a lure to draw Godzilla out and then destroy him with Mechagodzilla. While airlifting Baby out in a metal container, Fire Rodan attacks it. Fortunately, the creature is defeated by Mechagodzilla and G-Force's Garuda. When Godzilla then appears, the G-Force bring him down using their G-Crusher strategy (targeting his vulnerable second brain). When Baby then calls out to the weakened Fire Rodan, Rodan then in turn flies to Godzilla and passes on its remaining life energy to him. Re-empowered, Godzilla destroys Mechagodzilla, after which he leads Baby back to the sea with him. (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla)
Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla (1994)
1995: After Mothra fails to divert Space Godzilla from its approach towards Earth, she sends a psychic message (in the form of a small “Fairy Mothra”) to Miki Saegusa, warning her of the threat approaching Earth. Shortly afterwards, a NASA Interplanetary Research Vessel is destroyed when it encounters Space Godzilla in the asteroid belt. A new anti-Godzilla mecha-craft called MOGUERA (Mobile Operations Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-type) is sent to intercept Space Godzilla but is easily defeated by the cosmic beast. At the same time, Godzilla visits his child “Little Godzilla” on Birth Island. There, Miki Saegusa works with “Project T” in an attempt to psychically control Godzilla with a psionic amplifier. In short order, Space Godzilla lands on Birth Osland, along with several of its crystal meteorites. Space Godzilla imprisons Little Godzilla in crystals and then attacks Godzilla. After absorbing all of the energy from the island, Space Godzilla takes off for Fukuoka, leaving behind an injured Godzilla. Space Godzilla then creates a crystal fortress in Fukuoka, and feeds on the city’s energy to empower itself (using Fukuoka Tower as a focusing lens). Godzilla and the G-Force’s Moguera eventually work as a team in order to destroy Space Godzilla’s sources of power (the crystal meteors and Fukuoka Tower). After Godzilla finally destroys Space Godzilla, he heads back to Birth Island where a now free Little Godzilla awaits him. (Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla)
Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995)
1996: A radioactive eruption on (and destruction of) Birth Island mutates Little Godzilla into an even larger creature, soon dubbed Godzilla Junior. This explosion also initiates an internal chain reaction in Godzilla’s body which scientists believe will ultimately end in an apocalyptic, world-destroying explosion. At the same time in Tokyo Bay, Precambrian-era life forms (preserved in suspended animation) are exposed to remnants of Dr Serizawa’s oxygen destroyer weapon (originally detonated in 1954). These creatures, dubbed Destoroyah, begin to evolve into larger and larger forms, until they emerges on the mainland (initially as a hive entity) and begins attacking the populace. The anti-Godzilla G-Force decide to telepathically lure Godzilla Junior into a confrontation with Destoroyah, hoping that Godzilla will come to his ward’s aid, and that Destoroyah and Godzilla will neutralize each other. In the meantime, the Super X3 flying fortress fires anti-nuclear cadmium charges into Godzilla’s body, causing Godzilla to head towards a meltdown (instead of an explosion). Later, Godzilla Junior encounters Destoroyah in Narita, and is mortally injured. When Godzilla finally arrives, he eventually defeats Destoroyah (with the help of the JSDF forces), after which he then undergoes his final meltdown, and dissipates into a radioactive cloud. Fortunately, Godzilla Junior absorbs all of Godzilla’s excess radioactivity and transforms into a new Godzilla. (Godzilla Vs Destoroyah)

2204: In the 23rd century, Japan has become the world’s leading superpower. A multi-national resistance organization (the Futurians) decides to use a time-travel ship to go back in time to destroy Godzilla before he is born so that Japan can be conquered by the Futurians themselves. A Futurian team departs to 1992 with three creatures named Dorats (with which they will use to give birth to King Ghidorah in 1944). Later, a peace-keeping group led by Emmy Kano recovers King Ghidorah’s damaged, hibernating form at the bottom of the sea and turns it into a cyborg. Emmy then heads back to 1992 to defeat Godzilla with Mecha-King Ghidorah. (Godzilla vs King Ghidorah)

Rebirth of Mothra Continuum
The Rebirth of Mothra 1-3 (1996-98)
Millions of years in the past: A space monster named Desghidorah lays waste to Mars. Afterwards, it arrives on Earth where it is confronted by Earth’s protector, the legendary insectoid Mothra (who also protects the Elias, a race of small humanoids). Mothra successfuly defeats Desghidorah and seals it underground. (Rebirth of Mothra)

130 Million BC: King Ghidorah (likely a descendant of Desghidorah), causes the extinction of the dinosaurs. (Rebirth of Mothra 3)

  • 2nd Timeline: Mothra Leo arrives from 1998 in his Light Speed form and destroys King Ghidorah, after which he goes into a cocooned hibernation until 1998. Unfortunately, a piece of King Ghidorah (his tail) also survives, and similarly goes into hibernation until 1998. (Rebirth of Mothra 3)

11,000 BC: The kingdom of Nilai-Kanai (also known as Mu) creates an anti-pollution monster named Dagahra. Unfortunately, Dagahra produces swarms of poisonous starfish (named Barem) which cause more harm than good. Eventually, a devastated Nilai-Kanai and a now-satiated Dagahra are soon drawn to the bottom of the ocean by an earthquake. (Rebirth of Mothra 2)

1996: When Desghidorah is freed from his underground prison by unwitting loggers, he is opposed by an aged Mothra. Although Mothra eventually perishes from this battle, her egg hatches Mothra Leo, a larva which quickly transforms into his imago form. Mothra Leo soon overcomes Desghidorah and forces it back into its underground prison. (Rebirth of Mothra)

1997: Due to rampant pollution of the sea, Dagahra reawakens and begins producing swarms of lethal, red starfish (Barem), which attack fishermen off the coast of Japan. Dagahra also soon appears and goes on a rampage on Ishigaki Island. Meanwhile, Mothra’s Elias friends (Shobijin) help several children discover the sunken pyramid of Nilai-Kanai, and together they raise the pyramid back to the surface. Dagahra soon attacks the pyramid (which retaliates with its own beam defenses). The Shobijin summon Mothra Leo and he engages Dagahra in a fierce aerial battle. Ghogo, a small creature created by the Nilai-Kania, transforms Mothra Leo into Rainbow Mothra, giving him additional powers with which to fight Dagahra and resist the swarms of Barem. The fight eventually takes the combatants underwater where Rainbow Mothra transforms into Aqua Mothra. Aqua Mothra soon transforms again into a swarm of small Mothras, which enter Dagahra’s body and attack from within. In the end, Rainbow Mothra drops a defeated Dagahra on top of the Nilai-Kanai pyramid and both sink back under the waves. A last hologram from Nilai-Kanai warns the humans that the future is in their hands. (Rebirth of Mothra 2)

1998: A meteor lands in Katsuyama. King Ghidorah soon emerges and goes on a rampage and begins imprisoning children in a strange dome. The Elias summon Rainbow Mothra, but King Ghidorah defeats him. Strengthened by the Elias named Moll, Rainbow Mothra transfrms into Light Speed Mothra and travels back in time to 130 Million BC, when King Ghidorah was less powerful. After a cutting off one of his tails, Mothra drops King Ghidorah into the volcanic Mount Fuji. Weakened from the battle, she goes into a cocoon hibernation (with the help of three prehistoric Mothra larva arrive and who spray silk over him). In the present, King Ghidorah promptly fades away. However, only a short time later, another King Ghidorah appears, apparently regenerated from the tail Mothra had severed from the first King Ghidorah back in prehistoric times. The new King Ghidorah begins kidnapping children again. Fortunately, Mothra’s cocoon created during his prehistoric journey also hatches, from which emerges Armor Mothra. This enhanced Mothra then uses his powers to utterly destroy King Ghidorah. (Rebirth of Mothra 3)

Atragon (1963)
Expanded Timeline

This section lists the events of the 20th Century in more detail, and puts all cited events in a complete Earth chronology, including those which occurred before 1954. It also includes additional reports related to "super-humans" and "mutants".

Prehistory
Ca. 3 Million BC: The continents of Lemuria (located in the Pacific) and Mu (located in the Atlantic) sink under the waves, but their respective societies somehow manage to adapt to life underwater. While the Seatopians of Lemuria value a hidden, peaceful existence (Godzilla vs Megalon), the Mu Empire begin working on a way to regain their dominance over the surface world. (Atragon)

100,000 BC: The planet Mysteroid (whose orbit lies between that of Mars and Saturn) is destroyed by nuclear war. The survivors migrate to Mars but, due to radiation exposure from the war, their descendants are crippled by genetic defects. (The Mysterians)

A planet in the M Space Hunter Nebula gives birth to a humanoid race, but uncontrolled pollution and nuclear warfare cause their extinction. The only life form to survive this toxic atmosphere is a race of intelligent cockroach-like creatures. These insectoids eventually discover a way to cross the reaches of outer space. Additionally, they also develop sonic technology by which they can control space monsters such as King Ghidorah and the cyborg monster Gigan. With this power, they begin travelling to other worlds and subjugating them with monsters. (Godzilla vs Gigan)

The three-headed space monster King Ghidorah lands on Venus and begins causing havoc. The surviving Venusians flee to Earth, where their consciousness slowly becomes absorbed into members of humanity and passed down through the generations. (Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster)

The liquid metal inhabitants of Kilaak, an asteroid located between Mars and Jupiter, begin to develop advanced technology. (Destroy All Monsters)

The Okinawan god creature King Shisa (Seesar, or Caesar) helps the Azumi clan in their time of need. It then goes back into hibernation, but promises to return if needed again in the future. (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla)

A giant insectoid creature named Mothra is worshiped by the primitive inhabitants of Infant Island (who are possibly descended from refugees from the Mu Empire). Generations of tiny twin fairy girls (the Shobojin) communicate Mothra’s wishes to the villagers through telepathy. (Mothra)

1805: The Alpha, a highly advanced submersible craft, is launched under the command of Captain Craig McKenzie, who works for the benefit of the utopian undersea city Latitude Zero. Around the 1860s, McKenzie and his comrade Malic part ways and eventually become bitter enemies. For the next century they make war against each other under the waves. (Latitude Zero)

War of the Gargantuas (1966)
War Years (1939-45)
A scientist named Nishizaki discovers a particle which can render objects invisible. A special attack corps undergoes the transformation process but only two of the men survive through the war. They both eventually go into hiding. (The Invisible Avenger)

1945: A group of guards led by a man named Onishi attack a scientist named Nikki and betray their comrade Corporal Tsudo in order to hide a cache of gold for later recovery. They destroy Nikki’s electronic equipment and bury him and Tsudo in a cave in. Nikki and Tsudo somehow survive, and in the following years secretly begin developing teleportation technology. (The Secret of the Telegian)

1945: A German scientist named Riesendorf sends the heart of the mysterious “Frankenstein monster” overseas in a secret container. It eventually ends up in Hiroshima, but is then lost during the atomic bombing of the city. In the next two decades, the Frankenstein heart slowly regenerates itself, eventually restoring the rest of its body to become a small, deformed boy. The boy scavenges around the area in a confused daze until he is eventually discovered by scientists in 1965. (Frankenstein Conquers the World)

1945: Fleeing the war, an archaeologist named Matsumiya and his wife find refuge on Sollgel (Sergio) Island, and eventually have a child there whom they name Saeko. Both parents eventually perish in the ensuing years, but Saeko learns to survive on her own. (Son of Godzilla)

1945: The night before the end of the Pacific War, Japanese Navy commander Captain Jinguji steals Japan’s most advanced submarine, the I-403, and goes into hiding. Unfortunately, he is soon found and attacked by warriors from Mu (sunken Atlantis), and is forced to abandon the I-403 to them. In the next 18 years, he and his rogue crew work on the construction of the Goten, a new super-submarine which can travel underwater, drill through solid earth and fly in the sky. (Atragon)
Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster (1964)
Post-War Years

1954.03.01: Between 1946 and 1958, 67 nuclear bombs are detonated on the Bikini Atolls by the U.S. for testing purposes. In 1954, radiation fallout from one of these detonations causes death and disease to abound in the waters around Japan.

1954.11: Several ships off the coast of Japan are destroyed. A giant creature is reported rampaging through Odo Island. A scientific expedition led by Dr. Yamane sights the creature and determines that it is a remnant from a prehistoric age reawakened by the atomic bomb testing in the Pacific, and dubs it Godzilla (after a legendary sea divinity worshiped by the island natives). (Godzilla)

1954.11: An “invisible man”, rendered into such a unique state during the war by a scientist named Nishizaki, is found dead in Ginza with a suicide note. Around the same time, another invisible survivor of the same war-time experiment (but now living as a clown named Nanjo) also dies while helping some locals fight off gangsters. (The Invisible Avenger)

1955.04: Two pilots make an emergency landing on Iwato Island and spot two giant monsters in battle. One of them appears to be a “new” Godzilla, while the other, an armored quadruped, is dubbed Anguiras (from the prehistoric species Ankylosaurus). Back on the mainland, Dr. Yamane from Tokyo is consulted and he suggests the use of flares to lure this new Godzilla away from inhabited areas, should he approach the mainland. In short order, Godzilla appears off the coast of Osaka. Flares dropped from planes seem to successfully lure him out to sea, but an accidental conflagration in the city draws Godzilla back towards the shore. Worse, the earlier flares lure Anguiras from out of the open sea towards Osaka. The two creatures eventually engage in a massive battle in the city, until finally Godzilla seemingly kills Anguiras near Osaka Castle. The defeated monster’s carcass falls into the sea and Godzilla departs the area. Some weeks later, Godzilla reportedly destroys some ships off the coast of Hokkaido. Scout planes find Godzilla heading into the ravine of a small island. Military jets fire missiles into the icy, mountainous region in order to cause an avalanche, burying Godzilla and encasing him in ice. (Godzilla Raids Again)

1955.08: While vacationing in the Japanese Alps of Nagano, several members of a student party are lost, presumably killed by an “abominable snowman”. A second expedition to search for survivors is mounted when the weather clears up. This team, led by Dr. Koizumi, encounters an isolated tribe of locals who worship the snowman as their “master”. Meanwhile, a team of poachers also arrives in the area, hoping to capture the creature for exhibition purposes. The poachers are eventually killed by the snowman but the death of the creature’s son during the struggle causes the snowman to go on a rampage. It destroys the village of his tribal worshipers and then kidnaps one of Koizumi’s team members, a girl named Machiko. After the snowman is located, one of the villagers (a girl named Chika), distracts the snowman so that Machiko can be rescued by her partners. Unfortunately, in the process Chika and the creature are both killed when they fall into a boiling sulfur pit. (Half Human)
Rodan (1956)
1956.12:
Mine workers at Kitamatsu (a small town near Kyushu) break into a cavern holding a nest of prehistoric gigantic dragonfly larvae (Meganuron). Further underground exploration reveals the discovery of a giant egg. The egg soon hatches Pteranodon-like creatures (dubbed Radons/Rodans, by a scientist named Dr. Kashiwagi) which proceed to feast on the Meganuron. The Rodans are soon sighted at several sites around Asia and Europe, where they frequently cause mid-air collisions as well as massive destruction on the ground (due to the force of the winds their wings create). After the city of Fukuoka is destroyed, the JSDF shell the Rodans in their nest at the base of Mount Aso. This causes the volcano to erupt, and the resulting lava flow apparently buries the Rodans. (Rodan)

1957.12: A giant robot equipped with destructive eye-beams (dubbed Moguera) emerges from the ground near Mount Fuji and rampages through a nearby village. The JSDF manages to destroy it by luring it into a chasm next to Koyama Bridge. Shortly afterwards, an alien base reveals itself in the same area, and its inhabitants, the Mysterians (responsible for Moguera), explain that they had originally come from a planet located between Mars and Saturn, but nuclear warfare had caused its destruction. The Mysterians had then migrated to Mars, but with Mars now uninhabitable they demand their own reservation on Earth. They also demand human female mates with whom they can somehow restore their genetically-damaged race - in fact, they have already begun abducting Earth women for this purpose. The Earth forces resist the Mysterians’ demands and, despite some initial struggles, eventually develop new weapons (the Markalite FAHP, or Flying Atomic Heat Projector) to destroy the Mysterians and their base. (The Mysterians)

1958.07:
After exposure to irradiated rain from nuclear testing, several members of the ship Ryujin-maru II gain the ability to transform themselves into a bluish liquid form (becoming “liquid people”, or “H-Men”). They use this power to kill and infect other members of their crew. After returning to the mainland, the H-Men blend back into society but continue to transform other citizens from time to time. The investigation of several gangland murders reveals the existence of these H-Men at large. A scientist named Masada suggests that they may be vulnerable to electricity or fire. The liquid people are eventually trapped in a waterway and destroyed with a flaming gasoline spill. (The H-Man)

1958.10: Near the Kitakami River, scientists discover that the local villagers secretly worship a giant prehistoric beast (soon dubbed Varan by the scientists but called Baradigi by the villagers). Varan eventually emerges from its lake home and kills several people (including the village elder). The military arrives and successfully forces Varan out of the lake, but are unable to kill it with the forces gathered there. Varan soon ascends to a cliff and uses its membranous wings to glide through the air towards Tokyo. Conventional land and sea artillery continue to have no effect on Varan, so a new experimental form of explosive is employed. Taking advantage of Varan’s penchant for eating and swallowing shiny objects, the military manages to trick Varan into eating some of this experimental explosive. The creature apparently dies after the explosive is detonated within its stomach. (Varan)

1960: An ocean biologist named Dr. Mafune claims to have discovered Titanosaurus, a prehistoric dinosaur living near the Ogasawara Islands, and states that he can remote control it through technology. He is ridiculed and exiled from his profession. Later, while continuing his research independently, his daughter Katsura is seriously injured in an experiment. Her life is saved by aliens from a planet orbiting a black hole (the Black Hole aliens), putting Mafune in their debt. (Terror of Mechagodzilla)

1960.04: A soldier named Tsudo uses teleportation technology (invented in the postwar years by his friend Dr. Nikki) in order to exact vengeance on four former soldiers who had betrayed him at the end of the war. Although he successfully murders these men, he dies after the last act when an unexpected volcano eruption destroys his receiving station in mid-teleport. (The Secret of the Telegian)

1960.12: A scientist named Sano gives a man named Mizuno the ability to convert himself into an invulnerable gaseous state (a “Human Vapor”). Mizuno uses his power to rob banks in order to please his lover, a dancer named Fujichiyo. In the end, Fujichiyo ignites explosive gas to kill Mizuno (and herself) for his crimes. (The Human Vapour)

(Mothra)

1962.08: Two agents from a Japanese corporation (Pacific Pharmaceuticals) journey to Faro (Pharoah) Island and manage to capture Kong, a gigantic ape-like creature. At the same time, the U.S. submarine Seahawk accidentally hits a glacier in the Arctic, awakening Godzilla (who had been entombed in ice since 1955). Godzilla then goes on a rampage while heading south towards Japan. At the same time, Kong breaks free from his captors at sea and swims to Japan, arriving shortly after Godzilla. They soon engage in battle, but Kong is burned by Godzilla’s atomic breath and forced to retreat. The JSDF then lay a poison gas pit trap for Godzilla, but it fails to stop the creature. Fortunately, an electrified fence eventually drives Godzilla towards Mount Fuji. Although Kong is unaffected by the electrical fence, he is tranquilized by an intoxicating berry juice derived from a Faro Island formula. The JSDF decide to transport the drowsy Kong to Mount Fuji in order to have the monsters destroy each other. Kong somehow becomes super-charged with strength by a lightning strike during a storm, and eventually manages to throw Godzilla and himself off of a cliff and into the Pacific Sea. After a brief earthquake, Godzilla is nowhere to be seen, and Kong alone swims back to Faro Island. (King Kong vs. Godzilla)
Attack of the Mushroom People (1963)
1963.08:
A university professor returns from a sea journey and reports of an uncharted island where he and his shipmates had encountered strangely-mutated mushrooms. If eaten, these mushrooms induce an addiction, and those who continue to consume the mushrooms eventually become deranged “mushroom people”. Even worse, the professor soon exhibits signs of the mushroom infection himself, despite his denial of eating any of the mushrooms. (Attack of the Mushroom People)

1963.12: The undersea Empire of Mu begins kidnapping geological engineers to help them maintain their cavernous underwater city. At the same time, they issue an ultimatum to the governments of Earth, demanding that the legendary super-sub Goten be destroyed, after which the surface world will belong to the Mu Empire. When the U.N. resists, the Mu begin attacking several major cities with advanced weaponry and induce artificial earthquakes. The Japanese Navy eventually makes contact with a renegade war commander named Captain Jinguji, who has just completed construction on his super-sub the Goten, which is armed with a new weapon, the Zero Cannon (a freezing ray). Although the patriotic Jinguji is initially hesitant to use the Goten to help the rest of the world fight the Mu, a Mu sabotage bomb attack on Jinguji’s base changes his mind. When a Mu submarine attacks Tokyo, the Goten follows it to its underwater base of operations. After defeating Manda (the Mu’s gigantic serpent guardian) with electricity and the Zero Cannon, the Goten drills into the Mu generator chamber. Goten soldiers then plant bombs and the Mu Empire is destroyed when they are detonated. (Atragon)

1964.04: After a typhoon, a Mothra egg arrives on a Japanese beach. The Shobijin arrive and warn that if the egg is not returned to Infant Island, the soon-to-be hatched Mothra larvae may cause damage to the area. However, the newly-declared “owners” of the egg refuse to give up their newest tourist attraction. The typhoon also washes away some of the topsoil from a nearby coastal area, causing Godzilla to emerge from an underground slumber (probably a result of the previous battle with Kong in 1962). When Godzilla goes on a rampage, two reporters and a scientist journey to Infant Island to ask for Mothra’s help. At first hesitant to help the ungrateful humans, Mothra eventually flies to Tokyo and sacrifices her life in battle with Godzilla while trying to defend her egg. While the JSDF tries to slow Godzilla with electrified netting (dropped from helicopters), Mothra’s beached egg eventually hatches two gigantic Mothra larvae. When the electrified netting blows a fuse, Godzilla heads to Iwa Island, putting some school children in danger. The newly-born Mothra larvae intercept Godzilla at Iwa Island and cover him with silk, causing him to fall asleep and then roll into the sea. The Mothra larva then return to Infant Island. (Godzilla vs the Thing)

1964.08: A gigantic jellyfish-like alien from outer space appears in the sky, apparently a “space microbe” mutated into a gigantic creature after being exposed to massive amounts of radiation from nearby satellites. The creature, dubbed Dogora, proceeds to suck up all carbon-based materials (coal and diamonds) into its maw, causing destruction all over the Earth. When struck by artillery shells, the creature divides into smaller versions of itself. After it is eventually discovered that Dogora is vulnerable to wasp venom, scientists devise a weapon based on artificial wasp venom which causes Dogora to disintegrate into a rain of harmless crystal meteors. (Dogora)

1964.12: A meteor containing the hibernating form of the three-headed space monster King Ghidorah lands on Earth in Kurobe Valley. Around the same time, the consciousness of the Princess of Salno (a small Himalayan country) is taken over by an extra-terrestrial consciousness (later revealed to be from ancient Venus), after which she begins roaming the countryside declaring that great danger is at hand. While the Princess delivers a warning at Mount Aso, Rodan emerges from the crater and goes on a rampage. Later on, Godzilla appears off-shore and destroys a cruise ship. Godzilla and Rodan eventually meet and begin fighting at the base of Mount Fuji. King Ghidorah then emerges from the meteor-egg at Kurobe Valley and begins causing destruction with its gravity beams. The Japanese government ask the Shobijin (visiting from Infant Island) to summon the Mothra larva for help (its sibling had already died of natural causes). Mothra swims to Japan and upon arrival convinces Godzilla and Rodan to join forces with her. Together, they manage to drive Ghidorah off of the Earth. (Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster)

1965 (cited 1959.12): Aliens from the planet Natal attack Earth facilities (including a space station) with a freezing ray, which also causes an anti-gravity effect. Additionally, some Earthmen are implanted with mind-control devices. An Earth expedition to the moon successfully destroys a Natal base located on its surface using newly-developed heat-ray weapons. The Natal then begin to attack the Earth again, but Earth forces retaliate with Atomic Heat Cannons. Although New York, San Francisco and Tokyo are ultimately destroyed by Natal meteor bombardments (“space torpedoes”) and freezing rays, the Earth succeeds in destroying the Natal’s invasion forces. (Battle In Outer Space)

Dubbed “Frankenstein”, the boy eventually grows to colossal size and escapes into the wilderness where it feeds on livestock. In the city, a debate rages on whether to kill the monster for public safety or study it. Around the same time, a gigantic underground creature (dubbed Baragon) emerges from some mine excavations and causes great destruction, for which Frankenstein is blamed for. When Baragon attacks some humans (including Dr. Sueko), Frankenstein comes to their rescue. However, vibrations from their epic struggle cause a sinkhole to appear, which sucks both creatures into a bottomless chasm. (Frankenstein Conquers the World)

196X (cited 1965.12): The World Space Agency (WSA) sends a spaceship to explore Planet X, located just beyond Jupiter. There, the two astronauts (Glenn and Fuji) encounter the Controller and his people the Xiliens, who live in underground cities in order to escape constant attacks carried out by King Ghidorah (dubbed “Monster Zero” by the Xiliens) on Planet X’s surface. The Xiliens ask mankind for permission to bring Godzilla and Rodan to their planet so that they can again fight off Ghidorah. In return the Xiliens promise the cure for cancer. The Earth governments comply, and the plan is successfully carried out: Godzilla and Rodan apparently drive Ghidorah away from the Xilien base on Planet X. However, when the astronauts examine their “cure” it turns out to be an ultimatum from the Xiliens, demanding that mankind surrender to the Xiliens or face the destructive wrath of the three giant monsters (who have been brought back to Earth and are now controlled by the Xiliens through some kind of mind control signal). Earth’s governments fall into chaos, while Glenn learns from his Xilien lover Namikawa that the Xiliens are vulnerable to a certain sonic frequency. Fearing defeat, the Xiliens order the three monsters to begin rampaging across Japan, while at the same time Fuji discovers that the WSA’s new A-Cycle Lightray guns might be able to disrupt the Xiliens’ control over the giant monsters. Using amplified sound and the A-Cycle guns, mankind eventually defeats the Xiliens, who are all apparently destroyed in an explosion (just after the Controller vows that the Xiliens can use their technology to escape to “an unknown future”). Freed from Xilien control, the monsters resume their battle, ultimately ending with Godzilla and Rodan falling into the sea and Ghidorah flying off into space. (Monster Zero/Invasion of Astro-Monster)
Destroy All Monsters (1968)
1966.07: Sometime in the past, two scientists in Kyoto (Drs. Paul Stewart and Akemi Togawa) had discovered and raised a strangely-mutated, fur-covered boy, whose biology is apparently the same as that of the Frankenstein creature discovered by Dr.

1966.12: A terrorist organization named the Red Bamboo establish a secret military base on Letchi Island where they develop atomic weapons. This island is protected from discovery because a colossal shrimp monster (dubbed Ebirah) roams the waters surrounding the area and destroys all ships which come into the region. In order to protect their own ships from Ebirah, the Red Bamboo spray a yellow liquid from their decks which repel Ebirah from approaching their hulls. This liquid is manufactured by slaves, who are actually kidnapped villagers from Infant Island (home of Mothra). Eventually, some shipwreck survivors (whose ship had just been destroyed by Ebirah) make their way to the island and discover the Red Bamboo’s nefarious set up. They also stumble upon Godzilla, slumbering in a cavern. After they use a lightning rod in a thunderstorm to waken Godzilla, the behemoth gets into a battle with Ebirah at the shoreline. After repelling Ebirah with his atomic breath, Godzilla returns to the island interior where Red Bamboo jets soon attack him. This prompts Godzilla to go on a rampage on the Red Bamboo military base, which in turn prompts the Red Bamboo to initiate the countdown for a self-destruct bomb. The Red Bamboo flee the island on their transport ship but, because the Infant Island slaves had earlier sabotaged their liquid monster repellent, the craft is destroyed by Ebirah. Godzilla then engages Ebirah once again in the sea and drives it off (after ripping off its claws). Afterwards, the shipwreck survivors and slaves on Letchi Island narrowly escape the island’s self-destruct explosion when Mothra arrives (summoned earlier by one of the shipwreck survivors). Mothra carries the survivors and Infant Island slaves off to safety in a giant net. (Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster)

1967.07: A wealthy female agent named Piranha (representing a small Asian nation) hires the evil scientist Doctor Who (Huu) to mine Element X, a valuable mineral with which Piranha can empower her nation towards global domination. In order to safely mine this radioactive material from its underground location at the North Pole, Dr. Huu creates a robot (Mechani-Kong) fashioned after the legendary King Kong. Unfortunately, the robot malfunctions when exposed to the Element X radiation. At the same time, the U.N. ship Explorer discovers Kong (actually a smaller relation to the giant ape-like creature last seen in 1962) living on Mondo Island. After Kong saves one of the crew (Lt. Susan Watson) from a reptilian dinosaur (later dubbed Gorosaurus), Kong develops an affection for the blonde nurse. Dr Who eventually learns of Kong’s existence on Mondo Island and decides to capture the beast and force it to do his bidding (mining Element X). Using gas bombs to subdue him, he then ships Kong to the North Pole and uses a mind control device to force him to dig out Element X. However, the control mechanism fails when exposed to the Element X radiation. Kong eventually escapes Dr. Who’s prison and makes his way to Tokyo where he goes on a rampage. Dr. Who pursues Kong to Tokyo where he unleashes Mechani-Kong against the original Kong, hoping to subdue and recapture the beast. Fearing for the safety of Tokyo, Piranha disables Mechani-Kong’s controls, causing it to fall from Tokyo Tower and shatter. Kong then heads out to the bay and destroys Dr. Who’s ship, after which the ape-beast returns to the sea. (King Kong Escapes)

1967.12: On Sollgel Island, Dr. Kusumi and his team of U.N. scientists work on developing weather control technology. During their stay, the scientists discover that the island is home to various giant monsters, including three Kamacuras (giant mantises), a colossal tarantula (dubbed Kumonga) and, most importantly, a Godzilla egg (this preponderance of monsters prompts a visiting reporter to dub the island “Monster Island”). When an initial weather control test goes awry, the entire island is bathed in extreme heat and radiation for several days, further increasing the size of the Kamacuras. The giant mantises then crack open the Godzilla egg, from which a baby Godzilla (dubbed Minilla) emerges. Responding to Minilla’s cries for help, Godzilla soon appears and destroys two of the threatening Kamacuras. Godzilla then begins raising his “son” Minilla, but the remaining Kamacuras and a newly-awakened Kumonga continue to threaten Godzilla and his new charge. Dr. Kusumi and his team also eventually discover the presence of Saeko, the daughter of a Japanese archaeologist named Matsumiya who had fled to the island at the end of the war. When the escalating monster conflicts begin making the island too unsafe for further experiments, Kusumi uses his weather control technology to manifest a snowstorm over the island, which puts Godzilla and Minilla into hibernation (but not before they manage to destroy Kumonga with their atomic breath). This gives Kusumi, his team and Saeki the opportunity to escape the island on a small raft which is soon picked up by a U.N. submarine. (Son of Godzilla)

1968: A massive operation is begun to relocate giant monsters from around the world to Monster Island (also known as Monsterland), located in the Ogasawara chain (Bonin Islands). There, scientists will be able to monitor and study the monsters in safety. Eventually, a research facility is built in the center of the island. (Destroy All Monsters)

1969.07: A reporter named Lawton and two oceanographers are rescued from a stranded bathysphere by Craig McKenzie, a mysterious man who commands a super-submersible warship named the Alpha. In order to treat them for injuries, McKenzie brings the three men to his home base, an undersea utopia named Latitude Zero. The people of Latitude Zero are made up of scientists who have abandoned the politics of the surface and now work only for the future good of all mankind. However, McKenzie and Latitude Zero are also the target of a scientific madman named Malic, an ex-comrade of McKenzie’s who now plans world domination, and operates from a base named Blood Rock. When Malic’s submarine warlord Captain Kroiga fails to destroy McKenzie’s Alpha with her ship the Black Shark, Malik later punishes her by transforming her into a giant griffon-creature. Then, when Malik kidnaps a scientist named Okada and his daughter, McKenzie immediately mounts a rescue mission. After penetrating Blood Rock’s defenses and defeating Malic’s mutated slaves (giant rats and "bat men"), McKenzie and his forces successfully rescue Okada and his daughter. In the end, with the vengeful Kroiga-Griffon’s aid, McKenzie is able to destroy Malik and his fortress. Lawton eventually returns to the surface but no one believes his story. (Latitude Zero)

The science team manages to destroy Gezora with fire, but the space amoeba then transfers its consciousness into a land crab (and enlarges it to giant-size, after which it is dubbed Ganimes) and again attacks the island dwellers. Obata then sacrifices himself by leaping into a volcano in order to destroy the threat of the space amoeba once and for all. (Space Amoeba)
Godzilla vs the Smog Monster (1971)
1971.07
: A creature from outer space lands on Earth and merges with the polluted waters off the coast of Japan to create a “sludge-monster”, soon dubbed Hedorah. Although Hedorah feeds on fumes from factory smoke chimneys, its acidic flesh and toxic vapor trail soon cause many deaths in Japan. Eventually, Godzilla arrives on the scene to do battle with the bizarre creature. Unfortunately, Hedorah viscous form turns out to be more or less invulnerable to physical attacks (as well as Godzilla’s atomic breath). Finally, a scientist theorizes that Hedorah may be susceptible to heat rays. With Godzilla’s help, Hedorah is lured into the path of an electrical emitter array near Mount Fuji and destroyed. (Godzilla vs the Smog Monster)

1972.03: Cockroach-shaped aliens from a planet in the M Space Hunter Nebula arrive on Earth and begin taking possession of the bodies of deceased humans. In the guise of entertainment businessmen, they initiate a plan to create a monster-themed children’s park (Tokyo World Children's Land) which will give them an excuse to destroy all of Earth’s monsters (and remove them as a threat to their plans of subjugating Earth). When a few human employees of the park team begin to suspect their employers’ true motives, they accidentally trigger a sonic signal which draws the attention of Godzilla and Anguiras, summoning them from Monster Island. When the aliens realize that their ploy has been discovered, they summon two monsters from outer space to help them attack the Earth. These two monsters turn out to be King Ghidorah and Gigan (a cyborg monster). When Godzilla and Anguiras arrive in Japan they immediately engage the space monsters in battle. The aliens soon order Gigan to force Godzilla towards their children’s park, where the aliens then attack Godzilla with a powerful energy beam shot from their park tower. Fortunately, the park employees and the military eventually destroy the tower with explosives, in the process killing all of the M Space Hunter Nebula aliens. Godzilla and Anguiras then use team work to drive Ghidorah and Gigan back into space. (Godzilla vs Gigan)

1973.03: Nuclear testing inadvertently causes destruction to the undersea empire of Seatopia, a lost remnant of the continent of Lemuria (sunken below the waves 3 million years ago). In retribution, the Seatopians decide to have their patron monster Megalon (a beetle-like burrowing creature) attack the cities of the surface. When Seatopian agents discover that a scientist named Ibuki has developed a flying robot (dubbed Jet Jaguar), they use the robot to guide Megalon to the surface. When Ibuki learns of this misuse of his creation he regains control and then has Jet Jaguar fly to Monster Island to summon help from Godzilla. When the Seatopians learn of Godzilla’s approach, they ask the aliens from the M Space Hunter Nebula to lend them Gigan to help them fight Godzilla. While Godzilla makes his way to Japan, Jet Jaguar manages to increase his size to match that of Megalon’s, and engages the insectoid monster in battle. Gigan and Godzilla also soon arrive and all four giant monsters fight a massive battle. In the end, Megalon and Gigan are defeated and Jet Jaguar returns to Ibuki’s care. With no other options, the Seatopians simply seal all entrances to their underworld realm in the hope that mankind will no longer cause them any harm. (Godzilla vs Megalon)

1974.03: Ape-like aliens from the 3rd planet orbiting a black hole (Black Hole aliens) create a giant robot (named Mechagodzilla) based on Godzilla’s physiognomy. After emerging from a crater at Mount Fuji, it goes on a rampage in Japan, but is met with resistance from Anguiras, who senses Mechagodzilla’s false nature. After Anguiras is forced to retreat, Godzilla appears and engages Mechagodzilla in battle in Tokyo. When their beams intersect, both Mechagodzilla and Godzilla are injured and forced to retreat. While the Black Hole aliens force an Earth scientist named Miyajima to repair Mechagodzilla, Godzilla reaches an islet where he is healed and empowered by lightning strikes. When the Black Hole aliens send the restored Mechagodzilla on another rampage, Okinawan researchers and worshipers manage to locate the secret whereabouts of King Shisa (Seesar/Caesar, the legendary guardian monster of the Azumi royal family of Okinawa) and awaken it from its underground slumber near Azumi Castle. King Shisa soon fights Mechagodzilla, and is later joined by a lightning-empowered Godzilla. After a fierce battle, Godzilla and King Shisa eventually destroy Mechagodzilla, while Miyajima and Interpol agents destroy the Black Hole aliens’ base. King Shisa then returns to his mountain slumber, and Godzilla returns to the sea. (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla)
ESPY (1974)
1974.12:
The U.N. creates ESPY, a globe-trotting organization of agents who possess psychic powers of various kinds (telepathy, precognition, psychokinesis). Some of these agents are trained by a mysterious guru named Salabad. A ruthless European psychic named Ulrov forms a “counter-ESPY” organization whose agents assassinate various world leaders in the hopes of precipitating a third world war (leaving the Earth vulnerable to conquest by the surviving “homo-superior”). Although faced with many setbacks (in particular from Ulrov’s agent Goro, who also possesses the power to cast illusions), ESPY agent Tamura eventually masters the ability to teleport and using this foils Ulrov’s plan to assassinate the Baltonian Prime Minister. In the end, Tamura and his fellow agents track Ulrov down at his booby-trap-laden HQ and destroy him in a pyrokinetic attack. (ESPY)

1975.03: The Black Hole aliens retrieve and begin repairing Mechagodzilla. At the same time, their human ally Dr. Mafune perfects his technique to control the amphibious dinosaur Titanosaurus (a project he had begun 15 years ago). When Titanosaur destroys a submarine, Interpol investigates and eventually learns that Titanosaurus is vulnerable to ultrasound waves. During Titanosaurus’ next attack (this time on land), Godzilla appears and fights him. However, when its controller Mafune’s daughter Katsura is shot by Interpol agents, Titanosaurus becomes confused and retreats from the city. When the Black Hole aliens save Katsura’s life (a second time), they force Mafune to use Katsura as a remote control for Mechagodzilla in order to enhance its intelligence. Titanosaurus and Mechagodzilla are soon ordered by the Black Hole aliens to begin destroying Tokyo. When Godzilla again appears and engages them in battle, he is nearly defeated by Titanosaurus, but a new JSDF ultrasound weapon is used against it, giving Godzilla a chance to recover. After her father is killed in an Interpol raid, Katsura sacrifices her own life so that Godzilla can destroy Mechagodzilla once and for all. In the end, with Titanosaurus again without any form of human control, Godzilla throws it back into the sea. The Black Hole aliens then try to escape, but Godzilla destroys their saucers with his atomic breath. (Terror of Mechagodzilla)

1976 (cited in 1968.08 as “near the end of the century”): Alien saucers arrive on Earth and the Kilaak (aliens from a planet located between Mars and Jupiter) use their mind control technology to order the giant monsters based on Monster Island (including Godzilla, Minilla, Rodan, a Mothra larva, Anguiras, Kumonga, Baragon, Gorosaurus, Varan, and Manda) to target the major cities of Earth. While Paris, Moscow, Beijing, London and New York are attacked, the Kilaak establish a secret base at Japan’s Mount Fuji. They also use mind control on several humans in order to inform Earth’s governments that they intend to migrate to Earth and eventually take control of the planet. If denied, they will use the monsters to cause further havoc. The mind control devices are eventually discovered by the forces of the UN Science Council and are used to order the monsters to attack the Kilaak’s Mount Fuji base. However, the Kilaak counter by summoning King Ghidorah from outer space. Godzilla and the other Earth monsters band together and eventually defeat Ghidorah, after which Godzilla destroys the Kilaak base at Mount Fuji. A remaining Kilaak saucer is destroyed by the advanced space warship Moonlight SY-3, captained by Commander Yamabe. In the end, the monsters are all returned to Monster Island (sometimes called Monsterland) for further study. (Destroy All Monsters)

1979 (cited 1962.03): While on an exploratory mission to Saturn, the Earth ship JX-1 Hawk is diverted to investigate the approach of Gorath, a runaway planetoid with 6,000 times Earth’s mass. Although the JX-1 Hawk is eventually destroyed when it is caught in Gorath’s gravity well, it succeeds in sending crucial information back to Earth, warning humanity that Gorath will collide into the Earth in two years’ time. In response to this, the nations of Earth collaborate on a scheme to construct atomic thrusters at the South Pole in order to move the Earth out of Gorath’s path. During the final operation, a gigantic prehistoric walrus (dubbed Maguma) damages the polar installation, but is easily tracked down and killed with a laser. After the thrusters are reignited Earth is saved, although Gorath’s near-miss path still causes massive destruction on Earth due to rampant tidal forces (additionally, the Moon is destroyed by Gorath’s gravity well). Nonetheless, the Earth is saved from total destruction and the atomic thrusters are used to move Earth back to its original orbit. (Gorath)

1988 (cited 1977.12): Aliens from the Messier 13 nebula system embark on an invasion of the Earth. First, they force a comet to come near the Earth, causing electromagnetic interference and wiping out communications. Next, their space galleon, the Daimakin, destroys the U.N. Space Station Terra. In their final phase of attack, their saucer craft bomb the major cities of Earth. Despite Captain Takigawa’s misgivings about launching such a powerful warship, the space battleship Goten retaliates against the saucers and then takes the fight to the aliens’ base on Venus. After a great battle, Captain Takigawa uses the Goten’s superweapon to destroy the aliens’ war-galley. In the end, Venus is destroyed due to a chain reaction of volcanic eruptions. (The War In Space)
Prophecies of Nostradamus (1974)
1999 (cited 1974.08):
Industrial pollution on Earth leads to a cascading ecological disaster, including the appearance of radioactive dust clouds, the birth of deformed babies, the development of superpowers in a few children, the mutation of villagers into flesh-eating zombies, and the rise of destructive foliage. Additionally, mutated animals such as giant rodents and slugs are sighted. Later, an SST jet explodes above Japan, punching a hole in the atmosphere and instigating the devastating effects of extreme global warming. As the social order breaks down, a doctor named Nishiyama (who studies the ancient writings of Nostradamus) tries to convince the Japanese government to institute extreme austerity measures in order to prevent a prophesied nuclear holocaust. (The Prophecies of Nostradamus)

1999 (cited in 1961.08 as “near the end of the century”): Tensions between the great superpowers result in the launch of several nuclear missiles. Tokyo, London, Paris, New York and Moscow are destroyed. (The Last War)

1999 (cited in 1973.12 as “near the end of the century”): The movement of tectonic plates under the archipelago of Japan causes it to sink below the waves. Most of the population dies, although several million refugees are dispersed amongst the unaffected nations of the world. (Tidal Wave)
